The best hamburgers on earth are, of course in the U.S.A. But suppose you are somewhere else and crave a good one? That was the challenge posed by Gourmet Live. I couldn't weigh in, having literally never eaten a hamburger offshore, but author Megan Steintrager came up with some pretty good-looking ones from around the world. Pictured above, by the way, is a bacon cheeseburger on the grill at Doogie's, which is better known for its hot dogs ... but no slouch in the burger department. Doogie's own Rock Aronheim will be joining the Roadfood Eating Tour of Connecticut, September 29 & 30; and of course we will be sampling his burgers and his hot dogs.

I haven't mentioned this story before, but when visiting Doogie's in January, Rock sat down at my table and we chatted. He wanted to add some new items to his menu and picked my brain for different regional food and sandwiches across the country. When I mentioned Wisconsin's butter burger, he was intrigued enough to try it. He called the next day to let me know it turned out great and is now on the menu. I can't wait to try it for myself on the tour.

BTW, Rock is a great guy and host and will undoubtedly treat us all like special guests!
