Abbey Cake
This weekend, Jane and Michael Stern visit with Lynne Rossetto Kasper of The Splendid Table to give praise to the jams and liquor-soaked cakes that are the product of the monks of the Society of St. John. The Jampot at the Holy Transfiguration Skete can be found on the shore of Lake Superior in the northernmost reaches of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The Abbey Cake pictured above is a fruitcake generously laced with bourbon. There are other cakes with varying fruits and spices, soaked in brandy or rum. The jams look very interesting too, including wild chokecherry, wild bilberry, wild thimbleberry, and wild pincherry. You can hear the discussion on your local public radio station this weekend, or listen to Jane and Michael, or Lynne's entire show, online.
