Nicks Tenderloin
No, a tenderloin belt isn't the latest in Indy fashion accessories, it's that region of the Midwest (principally Indiana and Iowa) where tenderloin is king.  This weekend, Jane and Michael Stern visit with Lynne Rossetto Kasper of The Splendid Table to discuss the wondrous tenderloins to be found in these parts, and specifically to give praise to the version served in Huntington, IN at Nick's Kitchen (see the Roadfood.com review).  You can hear the Sterns on your local public radio station.  You can also listen in online, to the Sterns' segment, or to the whole show.

Growing up in California, a Pork Tenderloin sandwich was a special treat on my annual summer visits to the family farm just south of Iowa City, IA. Each relative had their own opinion where to find "THE BEST" tenderloin in Iowa and I'd happily sample all the area had to offer. Having lived in the midwest now for 15 years I think I can confidently say that the best Pork Tenderloin in the state of Iowa can be found at Augusta Restaurant in Oxford, IA. In fact, the Iowa Pork Producers Association seems to agree with me, as they awarded Augusta "best tenderloin" in 2008. So if you're ever traveling through Iowa on I-80, make a plan to stop and try this amazing sandwich. Big as the plate it's served on, it's complemented by the homemade bun, mayo and housemade pickles. Order an extra bun; you'll need it for the leftovers!
