A highlight of the upcoming Roadfood Eating Tour of Connecticut (September 29 & 30) will be eating at Super Duper Weenie, which has recently added outrageously juicy burgers to its menu, as pictured above. When I stopped in the other day, Chef Gary asked me if tour participants would be willing to do a taste-off to help him make a significant upcoming menu decision (details of which are still under wraps). I assured him that he'd have a restaurant full of experienced, willing – and opinionated! – eaters to help him out.

I asked Gary for the most photogenic hot dog he makes. Without hesitation, he said, "Chicago style" – as seen above (well, not actually seen, because it is buried under all the condiments). Chicago loyalists frequently remind Gary that this is not really an accurate Chicago dog, what with its rich potato roll, its hot, house-made relish that is not neon-green, and the spicy mustard; and being a Chicago son, I agree. But that doesn't mean this wiener isn't one of the finest tube-steak creations anywhere. With those salt-and-pepper French fries in the background: lordy, lordy!

Seriously, are you really planning to visit 25 restaurants a day before the tour starts? Is that even physically possible?

As you well know, there's probably more Roadfood per square mile in CT than anywhere else in the country (Chicago might be close). Many, many options to select from!
