One of my roles over the years was setting up exectutive dinners in different parts of the country. This allowed me to compare Peter Lugar, The Palm, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Charley's, Mon Ami Gabi, Flemming's, Donavon's Steak and Chop, Manny's, Keen's and Sparks in NYC, and The Capital Grill to name some. Each has it's strong points. Mon Ami Gabi in Las Vegas is a great buy for a very good steak and frites. I always eat there when I am in town. I have a pipe in Keen's so it is a sentimental favorite. I love Peter lugar's sauce. But, my favorite was my first...The Hilltop Steakhouse in Saugus, Ma. At the time,my friend told me "It's the best $9.95 steak in the country".

I love Both the Pine Club AND Peter Luger's! I also think Al's in St. Louis and Gene & Georgetti's in Chicago deserve mention as they are classi steakhouses!

The Pine Club is terrific, but I will take Doe's Eat Place as #1. Cousin Johnny says the one in Greenville, but I prefer the one in Little Rock.

Next time any of you are in Milwaukee, lets go to the 5 O'Clock Club on State St.--I think, no I am sure, any one of you will add this classic supper club, which has superb steaks, to your favorites list.

What about St Elmo's in Indianapolis, a consistently great steak for 100 years.

Had dinner at St Elmo's on Tuesday night (July 17) and it was as excellent as ever. Had the ribeye cooked perfectly to a beautiful medium rare. The steak had a nice char on the outside and was juicy and flavorful. Of course, the meal was started with their signature shrimp cocktail with large, plump shrimp that were cooked to perfection and were, as always, slathered in their sinus-clearing cocktail sauce. Dessert was a huge slice of delicious chocolate cake!
Whenever there is a conversation of great steakhouses St Elmo's should always be included.
