Digest: Renaming Contest for the New Orleans Roadfood Festival

Create a new name for the annual New Orleans Roadfood Festival and you will win an entire ready-to-eat Louie Mueller brisket delivered to your door and 4 All-Access Passes to the 2013 event in New Orleans.

2013 will be the 5th year of the New Orleans Roadfood Festival, and it needs a new name.

Purpose: To broaden the appeal of the festival. Unless you are a passionate eater, the term "Roadfood" may not convey the regional-specialty focus of the event and the food that is available.

The festival needs a name that is instantly understandable even to someone who has never heard of Roadfood … a name that lets people know that this festival is an opportunity to taste Holy Grail foods from around the country, prepared by the masters who do them best.

Some names we have thought of, but rejected as inadequate are: “Taste America!”, “Chow Down America!”, “Good Cooks, Good Grub Festival,” “American Soul Food Fest”

If you have an idea, please post it HERE. If your idea is chosen or is the inspiration for the final choice, the Brisket and All-Access pass are yours.

Well, first, is there a mission or specific goal of the festival? If you have a clearly defined mission statement, that would help with a proper name. The "purpose" listed above deals with the need for a name, I think the "purpose" of the festival itself needs to be defined first. I know the first festival was tied into bringing people to NOLA after Katrina. Is the festival strictly a for profit event? Any charitable organizations benefiting from the festival? If the name change is being done to try and gain a larger audience, I would work on the festival itself first. The main events have been lackluster to say the least. Personally, I think the current name is fine.

The initial thought was to have each word on a line of their own, vertically, FEED ME, however the program reformatted them to a single line. The multi-line version could be used widely, with the shorter version being used as the former caught on, or where space was limited.

I went to both New Orleans Road Food festivals and the first on Royal street was far superior to the second one in the french market. The first concentrated on food and was a destination. It felt like a Road Food event. The second was lost in the music and market venue. We locals thought it was less quality and more expensive. Would plan around the royal Street venue, wouldn't bother for the french market.
